Sketch-n-make: Automated Machining of Cad Sketches
نویسندگان
چکیده
Sketch-N-Make is a prototype system that enables individuals to create dimensioned designs quickly for a restricted, but broadly useful, domain of machined metal and plastic prismatic parts. Process plans, xturing, tool selection, feeds and speeds, and toolpaths are automatically generated from the designs allowing parts to be manufactured on a machining center with the aid only of a technician who prepares and loads the stock and

متن کاملThe Role of Sketch Finish and Style in User Responses to Early Stage Design Concepts
Conceptual sketches of design alternatives are often employed as a tool for eliciting feedback from design stakeholders, including potential end-users. However, such sketches can vary widely in their level of finish and style, thus potentially affecting how users respond to a concept. This paper presents a study of user responses to three objects drawn in styles ranging from rough hand sketches...
متن کاملHow to make CAD tools more useful to designers through re- representation
This paper describes research that explores computational approaches to automatically developing multiple representations of objects, with the aim of overcoming the limitation of fixed representations. The claim is that if CAD tools used a more fluid system of representation they would be more useful to designers by preventing fixation and by providing a means of resolving the ambiguity in inte...
متن کاملAutomated Sketching and Engineering Culture
In this paper we argue that sketching is an essential part of engineering culture. If current CAD tools cannot support sketching, it is the tools, not the culture, which must change. We then consider how close we are to having Computer-Aided Sketching tools which meet the requirements of traditional engineering culture. This discussion considers three categories of sketch: thinking sketches, us...
متن کاملAspects of Design Retrieval Performance Using Automatic Gt Coding of 2d Engineering Drawings
Many companies have the aim of reducing part variety as it confers on it a range of significant benefits. Achieving this requires a retrieval system that is effective, that designers will use and that is cost effective to implement and maintain. Coding and classification/Group Technology(GT) codes are widely used in systems for retrieval of existing parts but involve expensive and time consumin...
